Inspiration from My Recovery
Meet Ty Sanderson

I am a British Army veteran who once defined myself by physical strength, discipline, and pushing limits. That identity was tested in an instant when a life-changing accident left me paralysed from the neck down.
The future I had trained for disappeared overnight. Independence felt distant. Even the simplest movements were uncertain. But paralysis was not the end of my story.
Over the next three and a half years, through relentless rehabilitation, resilience, and an unshakable mindset, I rebuilt my life — movement by movement, milestone by milestone.
Today, I have completed a triathlon. I ride both a bicycle and a motorcycle. I drive independently and travel the world.
My journey isn’t about “overcoming” disability. It’s about redefining possibility after trauma — and showing that with the right mindset, support, and persistence, life after injury can still be driven by challenge, adventure, and purpose.
I am recently retired and have discovered that the self-worth I used to get from physical challenges is now obtained by helping others. I now want to try and give the benefit of my experience to those who might benefit.
The biggest day of my year is London Poppy Day, where I manage London Bridge station and in 2025 our team raised £113,000 for the Royal British Legion in one day.
